Polka Dot Love : MONTAUK

Posted on June 16 2015

As a textile designer it is difficult to practice restraint and to resist embellishing each pattern. I mean, a polka dot? Who is going to want a polka dot wrap when there are so many unique patterns out there? But ultimately simple and timeless designs are what we hope to provide you with; designs that support your ensemble, not overwhelm it. The Montauk wrap may be a sweet and simple polka dot, but that is the very reason it is so loved.

From Mini Mouse to Twiggy to the musical masterpiece that is “Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” – polka dots are sometimes down, but never out. This endlessly reinvented pattern has a place in our fashion hearts forever thanks to the incredible list of iconic women donning the playful print and leaving lasting impressions of pop culture polka dot moments happily burned into our memory.

Whether Polka Dots take you to the derby à la Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, or to the moment Charlotte’s water broke on a busy New York City sidewalk during a stressful run-in with Mr. Big, polka dots are a staple fashion fabric and here to stay.

We hope that this all at once sophisticated, romantic and whimsical wrap will find it's place as a classic go-to in your stash; something sure to achieve that glamorous 50's aura or that retro cool. As always: Mix and match it. Make it your own.

In closing we leave you with these wise words from Jess, our favorite New Girl:

"I brake for birds. I rock a lot of polka dots. I have touched glitter in the last 24 hours. I spend my entire day talking to children. And I find it fundamentally strange that you’re not a dessert person. It freaks me out.  I’m sorry that I don’t talk like Murphy Brown. And I hate your pants suit. I wish it had ribbons on it or something just to make it slightly cuter but that doesn’t mean I’m not smart and tough and strong."
