BALLARD STRIPE REVIEW by Mary S.

Posted on April 19 2015

Meet Mary S.
"My name is Mary, hello!  I’m a 26 year old mother to Claire Olivia, and I currently work from home with her (with a little part time babysitting thrown into the mix.) I’ve been babywearing since my daughter was a newborn - we started with Sakura Bloom ring slings, we’re still big fans - and soon began to explore mei tais, stretchy wraps, and eventually woven wraps. Babywearing very quickly became an essential part of my life as a mother; it enabled me to get as much work done as possible while my daughter napped.  I also love the freedom babywearing has given my husband and I as parents.  We’ve scarcely slowed down at all, because we like to be out and about! Babywearing has give us the ability to keep doing that, and also made Claire really great at going on outings. Everyone is her friend when she’s in the wrap or sling!"

BALLARD STRIPE REVIEW
"I had no idea which wrap I would receive when I was selected as a tester, so when I opened the box to find Ballard Stripes I was thrilled! The striped wraps Kindred has designed were what first caught my eye on Instagram. I’ve tried a big variety of woven wraps, and I always felt that classic basics were something really missing from the market. Kindred’s Ballard Stripe along with many of their other designs fill that hole beautifully.

When I unfolded it, I realized quickly it was likely the softest wrap I’d ever had. They say often that wraps “feel like your favorite t shirt” but mostly that phrase is used metaphorically. This wrap LITERALLY has the feeling in hand of your favorite, softest t shirt. I wouldn’t call it thin, but it most certainly isn’t thick. The weave is very light and airy and we were very comfortable on a hot day when we walked to get some ice cream (this wrap screams for a trip to get ice cream, in my opinion!)

For more thorough testing of the comfort and qualities, I actually took the wrap with me to a local babywearing meetup. We wrapped every size of child, from newborn to toddler and found that with newborns, the wrap is ideal. It molds to a small and “floppy” new baby. I couldn’t recommend it enough as a beginner wrap. The passes glide easily and it’s easy to keep track of the rails, specifically with this pattern. My close friend wrapped her newborn in it for the first time and she fell asleep within minutes.

For toddlers and bigger children, you have to be very intentional about which carry you choose and how you wrap - it has the potential to become diggy in a single layer carry and I might recommend a longer size for an older child.  I would say that it also “wraps short.”  In a double hammock with candy cane chest belt, I had just enough length and being petite my base size wrap is usually a 5. My tester was a 6.

If you need to know what I think of Kindred’s Wraps, know this: I was on the site the minute it launched to order one for keeps!  I am excited about all their designs, thrilled to use this soft and light wrap for summer walks, and cannot wait to see what they produce in the future." -Mary S.
